Abstract

The general objective of the present study was to analyze the depressive state in retired older adults during the covid-19 pandemic in Uruguay. The methodology used was based on a cross-sectional descriptive study. The results of the study show that the group of retirees studied was unequally distributed taking into consideration sociodemographic aspects such as age, sex, marital status, social stratum, household composition, schooling, marital status, health status, and their incidence on post-retirement depression in men and women. In addition, the presence of a mental illness in the retirees of the city of Montevideo was evidenced, being that 56.5% do not present any illness; physical or sports activity has 60.9% do not perform physical activity; 65.2% of the sample does not have a current economic work activity, 69.57 do not have hours on average per day and 82.6% of the sample under study does not have mental health problems, all this manages to produce a deterioration in the family environment of retirees, and its negative influence in terms of interpersonal relationships, performance and productivity. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out measures that encourage the surveillance of depression in order to monitor it preventively in the retired population.
